Sector

The media and entertainment industry demands spaces that are both technically precise and creatively inspiring. To strengthen our ability to support this fast-paced sector, Aura is excited to welcome a new team member with deep experience in building high-performance environments.

The media and entertainment industry is complex, and designing for it takes more than just creativity. It requires a thoughtful approach to create spaces that enhance and streamline the studio experience.

As competition intensifies, studios are seeking innovative ways to differentiate themselves, both among employees and clients. At Aura, we help organizations make smart investments in their workplaces, developing spaces that not only function seamlessly but also spark creativity and innovation.

Meet Davie Johnston

Aura is pleased to welcome Davie Johnston to the team as Senior Project Manager within our Project Delivery department. With over 35 years of global experience delivering complex, high-performance environments, Davie brings a wealth of knowledge in technical space design, particularly for the media and entertainment sector.

Davie’s career began in the United Kingdom, where he studied electronic engineering across various institutions, including the Ministry of Defense. He started his career as a broadcast engineer in television, laying the foundation for a career that combined a deep technical understanding with the fast-paced demands of the creative industry. This path led him to the Technicolor Group, where he most recently served as Vice President of Facilities Planning & Management. In his role, he oversaw the design and delivery of creative studio environments across 16 cities and 12 countries.

Bringing Global Experience to the Canadian Media and Entertainment Industry

His project portfolio includes over 1 million square feet of built environments, ranging from data centers and screening rooms to global headquarters and high-specification production spaces. Throughout his career, Davie has remained focused on the end user, carefully considering how individuals interact with space to support both creativity and operational efficiency. This user-centric mindset naturally aligns with Aura’s design philosophy and its integrated strategy, design, and build approach.

Davie’s arrival strengthens Aura’s ability to serve the evolving needs of the media and entertainment industry. With his extensive background and new perspective, Aura is now better positioned to deliver tailored, high-performance environments in this field.

We have deep, in-house expertise in the design and construction of:

  • Screening Rooms
  • Color / DI Rooms
  • Edit Bays
  • Sound Bays
  • Visual Effects Suites
  • Quality Control (QC) Spaces
  • Motion Capture Studios
  • Virtual Production Studios

Bringing Strategy Into Every Stage of the Design-Build Process

Davie presents a deep interest in workplace strategy and the nuanced relationship between space, function, and culture. At Aura, we understand the value that workplace strategy brings to a project. Our customized strategy approach aligns business goals with tailored space solutions that uncover insights that go beyond the surface to drive meaningful transformation. With the addition of Davie, we are excited to develop workplace strategy into all phases of the project.

We look forward to the knowledge and perspective Davie will bring as we continue to design and deliver impactful workplaces across Canada.
