The
Client's
Vision
brought
to

by
Aura

As the client’s needs changed, they temporarily leased an additional floor to accommodate their expanding team. While this solution met immediate needs, it was not intended to be permanent. Securing a long-term lease on a new floor presented an opportunity to move beyond a temporary arrangement and create a workplace with purpose. This new space was envisioned as a thoughtfully designed environment, one that reflects the organization’s values, fosters collaboration, and supports the way their teams work today and into the future.

One of the client’s top priorities was creating more collaborative spaces and places for their team to connect. They also aimed to design with hybrid work at the forefront, ensuring the new environment could seamlessly support both in-office and remote work. Beyond functionality, the client envisioned a space that would embody their commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, transforming these values into a tangible, everyday experience for their teams.

Aura’s interior design team approached the project with careful planning. The design concept is grounded in the use of circular geometry as a foundational organizing principle for the space. Curved walls with softened edges establish a sense of continuity and flow, creating a cohesive and intuitive spatial experience. Furnishings with gentle, flowing contours further reinforce this geometry, contributing to a calm, balanced environment that feels organic and intentionally composed.

Accessibility was also a cornerstone of the design process. Guided by the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification and the BC Building Code, Aura ensured that accessibility features were not just an afterthought but carefully integrated into design details. From furniture selection to circulation paths, each decision was made to support a workplace where everyone feels they belong.

The result is a workplace that balances form and function with deeper meaning, one that reflects the client’s values while providing an adaptable, inclusive space for their teams to thrive.

The new workplace features the following areas:

Touchdown Area

  • The touchdown area at the entrance creates a warm and inviting first impression. Designed for flexibility and short-term use, it includes hoteling desks, casual seating, and a kitchenette, an ideal area for staff or visitors who need a comfortable place to land for the day.

Collaboration Spaces

A wide range of collaboration spaces ensures that employees have a choice in how and where they work.

  • Phone Booth: Doubles as a neurodivergent-friendly room, offering a quiet space for focused work without distractions.
  • Small Collaboration Room: A bookable meeting space accessible to all staff, providing convenience and privacy for group discussions.
  • Training Room: A multi-purpose space with movable desks for flexible seating arrangements. It can serve as a training area, team workspace, or even a boardroom. Open glazing brings in natural light, creating a bright and inviting environment.
  • Collaboration Nook: Located across from the training room, this casual seating area supports informal conversations and teamwork.
  • Meeting Rooms: Two rooms accommodating seven and eleven people. One features a residential-inspired design with a living-room feel, offering a relaxed alternative to traditional meeting spaces.

Workstations

Two distinct workstation zones provide flexibility:

  • North Area: Can be divided into two smaller groups, each with doors for privacy and noise reduction, or opened up into a larger shared space.
  • West Area: Offers assigned seating with larger L-shaped desks, balancing individual focus with openness for collaboration.

Private Offices

  • Several private offices are distributed across the floor, designed in a consistent style with other client spaces to ensure a cohesive, professional environment.

Through a thoughtful integration of workplace strategy, interior design, and construction, Aura delivered an inclusive, collaborative, and highly functional workplace for the client. By translating their mission into a physical space, Aura demonstrated how workplace design can become a powerful tool for organizational success.
